This Ethernet shield plugs directly on FEZ Domino or FEZ Panda. USBizi, which is the core processor of FEZ Domino and FEZ Panda, support natively WIZnet W5100 chipset (the core of this shield) with .NET sockets style user interface. This means that it is very easy to make your own embedded Server/Client, using TCP or UDP sockets.
Also, the DNS support to query websites' IP addresses and DHCP to automatic IP address leasing.
